STICKY ORANGE TURKEY MEATBALLS

If I had to pick my biggest “guilty pleasure” it would probably be take-out orange chicken with rice. Anyone else with me here? The sticky, orange-y sauce and crispy chicken are just my weakness!

I’ve been trying for years (not kidding, actually years) to make my own version of the orange sauce without products that I don’t feel comfortable putting into my food, but that still tastes great. Well, I finally did it. And I’m so excited to share it with you all now with my spiced turkey meatballs.

This recipe is my current favorite, and my family’s too! No complicated steps, no unknown ingredients, and a tasty meal you can feel good about. Keep reading to try out my sticky orange turkey meatballs recipe!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup panko or rice bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • zest of 1-2 oranges
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp coconut aminos or soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot starch
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, bread crumbs, egg, green onion, cilantro, ground ginger and garlic, salt and pepper. Mix until fully combined.

Heat a skillet on medium heat with a drizzle of oil. Roll the mix into even ~1.5 inch balls and add to the pan. Brown on all sides by flipping a few times throughout.

While the meatballs cook, prepare the orange sauce. In a saucepan, combine all remaining ingredients other than the arrowroot starch. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, then pour in the arrowroot starch mixed with 1 tbsp of water and stir.

Once the meatballs are browned on all sides, pour the orange sauce onto the pan and mix to cover them with the sauce.

Remove the pan from heat and serve meatballs and sauce over rice, cauliflower rice, or with veggies of your choice!
