Turkey burgers alone can sometimes be a bland meal. That’s why I like to spice things up by adding a few of my own ingredients to level up the entire meal. That’s exactly what you do to make my jalapeno turkey burgers — add a few extra ingredients to plain ground turkey and suddenly you have a savory and spicy meal that will not disappoint.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 jalapeno, pickled (see note)
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped scallions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp cumin

Begin by pickling your jalapeno if preparing on your own. See note below for instructions on how to do so.

In a large bowl, add the ground turkey, cilantro, scallions, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika and cumin. Mix well until the mixture is uniform.

Heat a large pan on medium-high heat with oil. Form the mix into 4-6 balls, flatten them out, and add them to the pan. Cook for ~7 on each side, checking for doneness.

Remove burger patties from heat and top with any sauces, cheeses or topping you like and enjoy. Store in refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Note: To prepare your own pickled jalapeno, bring 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup water, 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tbsp salt to a boil in a small pot. Slice jalapeno into small disks, reduce heat to low and add to pot. Let sit in pot for at least 15 minutes, then transfer water and jalapenos to a jar.
