CREAMIEST PALEO HOT CHOCOLATE

Jump to Recipe

If you’re looking for a fun way to make homemade hot chocolate this winter, this recipe is perfect for you! The recipe requires minimal ingredients and takes minutes to make. Plus, it’s sweetened with maple syrup and uses pure cacao powder. I also suggest adding a shot of peppermint schnapps or topping it off with some marshmallows for extra fun!

Paleo Hot Chocolate Ingredients

Coconut Milk: You’ll want to use canned, full-fat coconut milk for this recipe if possible. I love using canned coconut milk and find that recipes are always best with that kind versus out of a carton. You can find canned full-fat coconut milk at any grocery store.

Coconut Cream: Coconut cream will add even more creaminess to the hot chocolate on top of the coconut milk. You can use either canned coconut cream or out of a carton for this. If you’d prefer just using the coconut milk and no cream, just add an extra quarter cup.

Maple Syrup: The sweetness of the hot chocolate comes from maple syrup. I love using it in this hot chocolate recipe because it is a more natural alternative to cane sugar and tastes much better in my opinion. Use a pure maple syrup for best results and to keep the recipe paleo.

Vanilla Extract: Adding in a bit of vanilla extract to the hot chocolate will add a bit of extra flavor, but the vanilla is completely optional if you’d prefer not to use it.

Cacao Powder: Pure, unsweetened cacao powder is what you’ll need for this recipe. You can buy it at any grocery store at an affordable price. Cacao powder has been related to improved blood flow to the brain and heart, so there’s even more reason to make this one!

Salt & Cinnamon: The only spices you’ll need for the hot chocolate are a dash of salt and cinnamon. These will add some extra flavor and top off the mix perfectly. From there, feel free to add anything else you’d like!

How To Make Paleo Hot Chocolate

Step One: Gather ingredients and heat a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour the coconut milk can into the pan and whisk until completely uniform.

Step Two: Add the coconut cream, maple syrup, vanilla, cacao powder, salt and cinnamon to the pan. Whisk constantly while the mixture heats up; do not let it come to a complete boil but wait for it to steam.

Step Three: When the mixture is hot and completely mixed with no cacao pieces floating around, it is ready to be poured into 1-2 mugs.

Step Four: If you prefer a thinner hot chocolate, whisk in up to 2/3 cup additional coconut or almond milk before pouring into mugs and enjoy immediately with your choice of toppings.
